我們已經介紹過啊,從放鬆身心,然後到只管打坐,這是呢非常容易的事 We have already introduced how, from relaxing body and mind, then to just sitting, this is a very simple matter!
但是只管打坐,雖然簡單,練習的時候啊還是要花時間的 However, just sitting, though simple, still requires time when practicing.
只管打坐,這是初步。 Just sitting, this is the preliminary step.
但花時間練習呢,只是要有耐心而且呢沒有得失心,隨時隨地都在只管自己的身體的覺受,自己知道自己的覺受,自己知道自己的身體,是在啊!做什麼 But spending time practicing merely requires patience and no mind of gain or loss, being mindful at all times and everywhere of your body's sensations, knowing your own sensations, knowing what your body is doing.
啊!坐著的時候就是,知道自己是在打坐。 Ah! When sitting, simply know that you are meditating.
只是「知」 Just "knowing"!
這個「知」!不是啊,注意!不是啊,檢查!而是只是呢?曉得!明瞭 This "knowing"! Is not attention! Is not checking! But merely: being aware! Being clear!
注意的話呢!比較累的,注意的話,往往它的焦點啊,只能集中到,某一部分,而且「注意」啊!很容易累的。 If it's attention! It's more tiring. If it's attention, its focus often can only be concentrated on a specific part, and "attention"! Is very easily fatigued.
「知」呢?就知道自己在打坐,吔!知道自己在做什麼?知道自己的感受,覺受是什麼 As for "knowing"? You simply know you are meditating, ah! You know what you are doing? You know what your feelings, your sensations are?
是什麼?是不是非常非常的細膩的知道呢? What are they? Is it a very, very subtle knowing?
最初的時候不容易細膩的知道 Initially, it's not easy to know subtly.
最初只能知道一個輪廓,一個大概,漸漸的心安定了,你就會像那個照相機的那個快門一樣。 Initially, you can only know an outline, a general sense. Gradually, as your mind settles, you will be like the shutter of a camera.
照相機並沒有什麼選擇,只是呢面對著,前面的景象、景色、事物,有什麼啊!它就接收什麼。有什麼就反應什麼 A camera has no choice; it merely faces the scene, landscape, or objects in front. Whatever is there! It receives. Whatever is there, it reacts to.
照相機跟我們的眼睛不一樣,眼睛有焦點 A camera is different from our eyes; eyes have a focus.
照相機也有焦點哪可是呢!它不是僅僅是只有一點,而是呢?在一個範圍之內啊全部的清楚。 A camera also has a focus, but! It's not just a single point, but rather? Everything within a certain range is clear.
照相機是不是很累呢?沒有!它是自然的反應哪! Is a camera tired? No! It's a natural reaction!
那我們用眼睛看呢!看,很少能夠啊!眼睛睜開一看,把我們這個視野裡面的所有的景色景象景物,每一樣都看得清楚,不可能 And when we use our eyes to see! Seldom can we! Open our eyes and see every single scene, landscape, and object within our field of vision clearly; it's impossible!
只能夠選擇其中的一點,那才看清楚。 We can only choose one point among them to see clearly.
因此就像是注意啊,用注意的心來注意自己的身體,注意自己的念頭,是啊不能夠持久!也不能夠啊,清楚整體 Therefore, like attention, using an attentive mind to pay attention to your body, to your thoughts, indeed cannot be sustained! Nor can it clearly perceive the whole!
如果是「知」呢?你剛剛開始 坐的時候啊,心不夠安定,不容易啊知道全部,所以呢?要請你們啊!從頭,眼球,一部分一部分的放鬆,一部分一部分的放鬆。 If it's "knowing"? When you first begin to sit, if your mind is not settled enough, it's not easy to know everything. Therefore? I ask you! From your head, your eyeballs, to relax part by part, part by part.
反覆的練習著放鬆!從頭部一直到腿部腳部,一部分一部分的能放鬆 Practice relaxing repeatedly! From the head all the way to the legs and feet, relax part by part.
當你能夠,一下子全部放鬆,這不容易啊。還是局部局部的放鬆! When you can relax everything at once, that's not easy. Still, relax part by part!
局部的放鬆之後,那整體啊,你覺得是已經啊放鬆了 After localized relaxation, then overall, you feel that you have already relaxed!
這時候才開始「只管打坐」。 Only then do you begin "just sitting."
這時候是「知」而不是「注意」,是「照」而不是呢?「檢查」。 At this time, it is "knowing" not "attention," it is "illumination" not "checking."
「照」有一點像什麼?像用手電筒,或則是呢?「電燈」 What is "illumination" a bit like? Like using a flashlight, or perhaps? A "lamp."
電筒電燈呢?它的光啊!在它一定的範圍之內,在一照啊同時是照到。 A flashlight or lamp? Its light! Within its designated range, when it illuminates, it illuminates simultaneously.
也算是個有範圍有焦點呢!但是它不是一點,它是啊在一個區域裡面吶 It also has a range and a focus! But it's not a single point, it's rather in an area!
「光」並沒有選擇,「光」並不是在檢查,「光」就是呢!「照」。 "Light" has no choice, "light" is not checking, "light" is simply! "Illumination."
你的心是「知」,那也就是啊!「曉得」「清楚」「明朗」是在「照」而不是有選擇的檢查。不是呢?「注意」 Your mind is "knowing," which is also! "Being aware," "being clear," "being bright"—it is "illumination" rather than selective checking. It is not? "Attention"!
這請大家呢?了解啊!我剛才講的比喻,比喻可以讓你意會到「默照」的「照」是「知」,「默照」的「照」不是啊?不是什麼?不是注意,不是用焦點啊!一點上,注意它,注意它,不是啊!這是「知」,有點像什麼?像照相機的快門,有點像什麼?像電燈。 Please everyone? Understand! The analogy I just gave, the analogy can help you grasp that the "illumination" of "Silent Illumination" is "knowing." The "illumination" of "Silent Illumination" is not? Not what? Not attention, not using a focus! On a single point, paying attention to it, paying attention to it, no! This is "knowing," a bit like what? Like the shutter of a camera, a bit like what? Like a lamp.
電燈只要它有光源有光能,它在一定的範圍之內啊!它是平等的「照」 As long as a lamp has a light source and light energy, within a certain range! It "illuminates" equally.
所以一直到成佛為止,成為叫做「佛光普照」。他為什麼能夠普照?因為他沒有選擇,因為他不是注意,是「知」。所以什麼「知」?智慧的「知」。「照」是普照。 Therefore, all the way until Buddhahood, it is called "Buddha's light shines universally." Why can he illuminate universally? Because he has no choice, because he is not paying attention, it is "knowing." So what "knowing"? The "knowing" of wisdom. "Illumination" is universal illumination.
「默照」沒有選擇,沒有分別,沒有取捨,這個叫做什麼?「默」。 "Silent Illumination" has no choice, no distinction, no grasping or rejecting. What is this called? "Silence."
當你的身體上,有痛、癢、酸、麻、冷、熱,等等的反應 When your body has reactions such as pain, itch, soreness, numbness, cold, heat, and so on.
而你心裡面呢?可能就會產生呢!苦、樂、憂、喜、捨,然後就產生吶!貪、瞋、愚痴的障礙就出現了! And in your mind? Afflictions such as suffering, joy, sorrow, happiness, equanimity may arise, and then! The obstacles of greed, anger, and ignorance appear!
煩惱出現的原因, 就是呢!你是在選擇了!你不是在「照」,你是順著你自己的身體的狀態,心有所動,有反應,有選擇,還有呢?有啊貪、瞋等的煩惱。那就不是什麼?不是「默」了。 The reason afflictions arise is! You are choosing! You are not "illuminating," you are following your body's state, your mind is stirred, it reacts, it chooses, and what else? There are afflictions like greed and anger. Then what is it not? It is not "silence."
因此要練習著「默照」的話呢?一定是啊!不選擇,不注意,而不檢查,只是呢?自己的當下的每一念呢!每一念呢!清楚!明瞭! Therefore, if you want to practice "Silent Illumination"? It must be! Not choosing, not paying attention, and not checking, but merely? Every single thought in your present moment! Every single thought! Is clear! Is lucid!
清楚明瞭什麼?清楚明瞭你的身心的狀態啊!要在檢查它嗎?不是啊! Clear and lucid about what? Clear and lucid about the state of your body and mind! Should you check it? No!
一個你是心理分析師了!或則你是醫生了啦!那檢查身體健康囉!不是 If you were a psychoanalyst! Or if you were a doctor! Then you would check physical health! No!
我們呢,用「默照」的方法呢?不是要你檢查身體,也不是要你分析你的心理狀態,只是「知」而! As for us, using the method of "Silent Illumination"? It is not asking you to check your body, nor is it asking you to analyze your psychological state, but merely "knowing"!
知了以後呢怎麼樣?「知」就是「知」,保持著「知」 And after knowing, then what? "Knowing" is just "knowing," maintaining "knowing."
但是對於事情要不要什麼處理呢?沒有什麼好處理的! But for matters, is there anything to deal with? There's nothing to deal with!
而在這種「坐禪箴」裡面有一句叫做「不觸事而知,不對緣而照」 And in this "Admonition on Sitting Meditation," there is a line called "Know without touching the matter, illuminate without facing the object."
「觸事而知」這裡面並不是等於說沒有事。有事!但是呢?不去選擇它!不去分析它!不去啊檢查它,而只是讓「我知、我知、我知」。 "Know without touching the matter" here does not mean there are no matters. There are matters! But? Do not choose them! Do not analyze them! Do not check them, but merely let "I know, I know, I know."
任何的身心狀況,那都是「事」,你不要碰它 Any state of body and mind, that is a "matter." Do not touch it.
所謂不要碰它,就是不要執著它。「知」而不執著你所知的「事」。 What is meant by "do not touch it" is "do not cling to it." "Know" without clinging to the "matter" you know.
那你有境界的,你的境界就是你的身體,那就是對象 Then you have an experience, your experience is your body, and that is an object.
你是有?有「緣」,也就是有對象了。 Do you have? You have an "object," which means you have an object.
但是你那個對象呢!不要把它當成對象。你不在乎它,它就不是對象,你在乎它,它就是對象 But that object of yours! Do not treat it as an object. If you don't care about it, it's not an object. If you care about it, it is an object.
你在乎它,它就成為你的對象,也成為你的障礙。你的心就會起煩惱,你的心就會起分別,起執著。 If you care about it, it becomes your object, and also your obstacle. Your mind will then arise afflictions, your mind will then arise distinctions, arise attachments.
那就不是「默」,凡是起煩惱起執著,起分別就是呢?就不是「默」,這是有一個對象了 Then that is not "silence." Whenever afflictions, attachments, or distinctions arise, then? It is not "silence." This means there is an object!
你不要把它當成一個對象。 Do not treat it as an object.
好比啊!你在街上走,或則是在鄉下走過一個人家門口,那個人家有一隻狗,牠看到陌生人呢?會啊對他吠!吠。牠追著你吠 For example! You are walking on the street, or walking past someone's house in the countryside. That family has a dog, and when it sees a stranger? It will bark at them! Bark. It chases you, barking!
這個時候你不要注意牠呢?你不在乎牠呢?這個狗啊!自然而然牠就沒有事了! At this time, if you don't pay attention to it? If you don't care about it? This dog, ah! Naturally, it will be fine!
如果你在乎牠,你注意牠,牠就變成你的障礙,牠不斷的追著你,一直追著追追著很遠!有沒有遇到過呢 If you care about it, if you pay attention to it, it becomes your obstacle. It constantly chases you, chasing and chasing very far! Have you ever encountered this?
如果你裝著沒有事,根本不在乎牠。這個狗吠兩下,牠就不吠了!因為牠一開始也是擔心你! If you pretend nothing is happening, and don't care about it at all. The dog barks twice, and then it stops barking! Because it was also worried about you at first!
例如,您開車的時候也是全面的了知,路上的警告標誌,您也清楚,但不會因為太注意標誌而失去您的方向 For example, when you are driving, you are also fully aware. You are also clear about the warning signs on the road, but you will not lose your direction by paying too much attention to the signs!
那麼我們同樣的,「知」就是「照」照的時候心中無事啊! So, similarly, "knowing" is "illumination." When illuminating, the mind is without matters!
「知」和「照」是有對象的但是不要把對象當做是你所緣境,曉得就好 "Knowing" and "illumination" have objects, but do not treat the objects as your focal points of attachment. Just know!
不需要把它當成你的對象來看。 There is no need to view it as your object.
這個呢?在用功的時候,把握這樣的原則。同時也可以用到平常生活裡面去 This? When practicing, grasp this principle. At the same time, it can also be applied to daily life!
事情狀況清清楚楚,要怎麼應該怎麼處理就是怎麼處理,不要在那邊起煩惱,起分別 Situations and circumstances are clear. How they should be handled is how they are handled. Do not arise afflictions or distinctions there.
所謂分別的意思並不是無知,這個無分別並不等於無知。 The meaning of "distinction" is not ignorance. This "non-distinction" is not equal to ignorance.
「知」而不起啊貪、瞋等等的煩惱心,這叫做無分別。那就是智慧了!所以那就是「默」的意思啊 "Knowing" without arising greedy, angry, and other afflicted minds, this is called non-distinction. That is wisdom! So that is the meaning of "silence"!
知而不起煩惱! Know without arising afflictions!
