The contemplation of wisdom can foster inner stability and balance.
And when the mind is calm, one will also know the correctness of one's awareness and observation.
"Samatha" (calming) and "Vipassana" (insight) cannot be separated.
When "Samatha" and "Vipassana" become more integrated, the conviction in one's practice will become more enduring and certain.
The power to maintain inner clarity and stability will become increasingly firm.
Its duration and scope will also become longer and more profound.
The phenomena of nature are always subtle, and frequent contemplation is more beneficial for our understanding of true Dharma.
Just like the growth process of trees, we don't easily see it.
But the falling of leaves is very easy to perceive.
The process of water vapor condensing into clouds is also not easily noticed, but rainfall is rapid and obvious.
The growth of life requires quiet waiting, while the disappearance of life is always in an instant.
These phenomena teach us to view life with great patience and prudence, and constantly remind us that letting go of attachment is very easy.
As long as you change your perceptions and thoughts, letting go is immediately accomplished.
In our usual practice, we first eliminate delusion and then return to truth.
First, observe the deluded thoughts and attachments arising in the mind, then use wisdom and meditation to let go of attachment.
Finally, return to the unborn, undying, equal true nature.
This means returning to the truth of the One Reality.
However, when interacting with many complex people, events, and things in life.
One must train oneself to directly observe the existence of "Dharma" within them.
For example: when standing in a bustling place filled with noise from traffic.
One should be grateful for people's efforts, displaying the impermanence and non-abiding nature of Dharma before you.
Allowing you to learn not to cling. To distance yourself from illusions. To transcend distinctions, and have nothing troubling your mind.
When you see people or things that are not to your liking.
You should see that all phenomena are merely illusory appearances of light and shadow, opposition and contrast, devoid of inherent reality, transcending duality and distinctions.
When you encounter the pressure of time.
You should know that time is merely a product of the past and the future.
You bear it in the present moment, yet there is nothing to be done. No worries and no need to be afraid.
When you are in a meeting, why turn a deaf ear?
You should listen and feel. The surprise and tranquility brought by the wonderful Dharma of impermanence.
When you encounter harsh words and insults.
You should know that this too is a perfect correspondence, there is cause, there must be effect, no coming and no going.
When you have to play many different roles at the same time.
You should know that no single "I" can forever represent the true self, the true self does not reside anywhere.
Wherever and whenever, "Dharma" is always by your side.
The value of "Dharma" is always worthy of affirmation.
Successes are worthy of commending the wisdom of others, and failures can also affirm the efforts of others.
As long as you are mindful, you can hear the message brought by "Dharma."
"Dharma," through "impermanence," constantly reminds you to return home, not to chase illusions.
And through "karma," it points you to the correct path.
"Dharma" possesses infinite possibilities that we can trust.
As long as you make every effort, anyone will ultimately attain Buddhahood.
Be mindful at all times, and thereafter you will be able to constantly see the pure colors free from confusion and distinctions.
Hear the pure sound beyond the deepest silence.
Feel the balanced warmth transcending cold and heat.
Taste the unique flavor of Dharma that surpasses all other tastes.
And smell the true fragrance of precept and concentration that blows against the wind.
And experience the balanced, beautiful, and conflict-free pure world.
Finally, let me explain that the teachings used in this meditation retreat.
Are primarily based on the "Four Foundations of Mindfulness" from the Agamas, as taught by the Buddha.
As well as the "Yogācārabhūmi Śāstra" and "Mūlamadhyamakakārikā."
Plus a little personal practice technique integrated to form this.
And for the "Samatha" (calming) practice on the third day, the method of breath counting was used.
If you are already accustomed to using other methods, and also use them very well.
For example: contemplation of impurity, chanting mantras, reciting Buddha's name, visualization, just sitting, Zen koan practice, etc.
Whether practicing Theravada Buddhism, Tibetan, Chinese Mahayana, or other proper religious Dharma gates.
As long as the concepts are correct, you can skillfully apply your own methods.
I hope this explanation can be of some help to your practice.
May you be auspicious and wish everything goes well.
And I also wish all sentient beings can complete the path to enlightenment.
