Dear friends, today we will explore a topic concerning inner contentment and balance.
Regarding "attachment and excessive desire."
The Buddha once taught us that those with many desires, due to their excessive pursuit of gain, will experience much suffering.
Conversely, those with few desires, having no seeking and no craving, will be free from such troubles.
Even those naturally possessing few desires should continue to cultivate this state of mind.
Furthermore, having few desires can generate various virtues.
Those with few desires possess a clear mind and will not flatter others to seek their approval.
Nor will they be swayed by external sensory perceptions.
Those who practice few desires will have a naturally tranquil heart, free from worry or fear.
They handle matters with completeness, often feel abundant, and never experience insufficiency.
Possessing a mind with few desires leads to inner Nirvana.
This is the true meaning of having few desires.
The passage above is a teaching from the Buddha, and it is actually very simple and easy to understand.
The term "諸根" (all roots) mentioned refers to our eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, and mind roots.
And for us ordinary mortals, "Nirvana" can be likened to a state of inner peace.
In truth, those who can be content with their current situation naturally possess a steadfast and clear inner heart.
This contrasts with the desires of those who seek much, whose cravings are often projected into an unknown future.
Therefore, individuals with few desires and contentment can indeed experience more happiness and joy than others.
Let us gently view all things in the world with an impartial heart.
This, indeed,is the truly balanced and beautiful life.
Here,I extend my deepest gratitude for your listening.
