Dear friends, welcome to this moment of stillness.
Today, we will together explore the wisdom of "Right View,"
Helping us to navigate through the mists of the world and perceive reality clearly.
Wrong views are the very reason we fail to see clearly, become deluded, and bind ourselves.
The Buddha said in the Foam Simile Sutta: "Bhikkhus!
Suppose a large mass of foam floats on the Ganges River, and a person with good sight inspects it, ponders over it, carefully examines it,
Then that mass of foam appears to that person as empty, hollow, without substance,
For where could substance be found in a mass of foam?
Similarly, Bhikkhus! Any kind of form,
Whether past, present, or future; internal or external; coarse or subtle; inferior or superior; far or near.
A bhikkhu inspects it, ponders over it, carefully examines it,
Then form appears to the bhikkhu as empty, hollow, without substance,
For where could substance be found in form?"
"Bhikkhus! Suppose, in the last month of the rainy season, when large raindrops are falling straight down,
Water bubbles arise and burst on the surface of the water.
A person with good sight inspects it, ponders over it, carefully examines it,
Then that water bubble appears to that person as empty, hollow, without substance,
For where could substance be found in a water bubble?
Similarly, Bhikkhus! Any kind of feeling,
Whether past, present, or future; internal or external; coarse or subtle; inferior or superior; far or near.
A bhikkhu inspects it, ponders over it, carefully examines it,
Then feeling appears to the bhikkhu as empty, hollow, without substance,
For where could substance be found in feeling?"
"Bhikkhus! Suppose, in the last month of the rainy season, at noontime,
A shimmering, wavering mirage arises.
A person with good sight inspects it, ponders over it, carefully examines it,
Then that mirage appears to that person as empty, hollow, without substance,
For where could substance be found in a mirage?
Similarly, Bhikkhus! Any kind of perception,
Whether past, present, or future; internal or external; coarse or subtle; inferior or superior; far or near.
A bhikkhu inspects it, ponders over it, carefully examines it,
Then perception appears to the bhikkhu as empty, hollow, without substance,
For where could substance be found in perception?"
"Bhikkhus! Suppose a person needing heartwood, seeking heartwood, wandering in search of heartwood,
Enters a forest with a sharp axe.
She sees a large, straight, fresh-green banana tree, not yet grown its fruit bud.
She cuts down the banana tree from its base, chops off the crown,Then, as she peels off the trunk layer by layer, she cannot even find sapwood, let alone heartwood.
A person with good sight inspects it, ponders over it, carefully examines it,
Then that banana tree appears to that person as empty, hollow, without substance,
For where could substance be found in a banana tree trunk?
Similarly, Bhikkhus! Any kind of mental formations,
Whether past, present, or future; internal or external; coarse or subtle; inferior or superior; far or near.
A bhikkhu inspects it, ponders over it, carefully examines it,
Then mental formations appear to the bhikkhu as empty, hollow, without substance,
For where could substance be found in mental formations?"
"Bhikkhus! Suppose a magician's apprentice performs a magic trick at a crossroads.
A person with good sight inspects it, ponders over it, carefully examines it,
Then that magic trick appears to that person as empty, hollow, without substance,
For where could substance be found in a magic trick?
Similarly, Bhikkhus! Any kind of consciousness,
Whether past, present, or future; internal or external; coarse or subtle; inferior or superior; far or near.
A bhikkhu inspects it, ponders over it, carefully examines it,
Then consciousness appears to the bhikkhu as empty, hollow, without substance,
For where could substance be found in consciousness?"
